I had an EB-2 with a gold top and natural back and loved that thing.
I don't think I ever knew exactly what year it was as I recall but it was the only goldtop I've ever seen. I had an EB-2 with a gold top and natural back and loved that thing.
I love the sound of them with flats played with a pic to get that thumping sound. Our own Tom Guitar has some of the nicest early EB-2's I've seen if he happens to see this.....
Off topic but the Fender Coronado hollowbody basses can sound amazing, too. The bass player in the first band I ever "gigged' with played an EB2.
Maybe they got endorsement deals from Gibson/Epi or something, but I remember seeing them with the Kinks, the Animals, and other English bands back then.
You can see them in some old You Tube clips from that time.
Al My friend has an old Rivoli, it's a short scale bass, and I found out something I never knew: besides the regular pickup, it also has an acoustic-type pickup embedded in it somewhere (under the bridge? I don't know if the Gibson version had this or not.
Al I talked to my bass player about this after Al told this story before......
I have just fallen in love with the tone of the Gibson EB-2 bass guitar. I have the Epiphone Rivoli from the '60s, hard to date, but it was made between '63 and '67. Perfection from the same plant as the Gibsons in Kalamazoo. What a dream bass - punchy, full, sustaining, and easy to play.

Similar to the ES-335, the Gibson EB-2 was a semi-hollow bass with that classic Gibson shape.
